GreenerFuture

Green Fox Community Energy, Community Energy South(CES), and Leicestershire County Council are working in partnership to deliver a climate action programme called Community Energy Pathways. Community Energy Pathways is part of GreenerFuture, formerly know as Leicestershire Collaborate to Accelerate Net Zero (Leicestershire CAN), which has been awarded £2.56m from Innovate UK, as part of their Net Zero Living Programme.

The aim is to establish community energy champions across the county that can work collaboratively and support each other to meet their ambitions for a locally driven energy system. We will be offering a free mentoring programme and community energy support network. This is a real opportunity to play a part in the future of energy in Leicestershire.

Community Energy Pathways programme

The Pathways programme is a tried and tested process to establish a thriving community energy sector in local authority areas across the country. With CES, we hope to build up community energy capacity across Leicestershire, supporting a network of new community energy organisations to establish locally driven low carbon projects that help the county’s journey towards net zero. The work will require deep community outreach and engagement to onboard interested parties across the county to support householders to play an active role in a low carbon energy system.

Are you concerned about climate change and want to help your community reduce carbon emissions? Do you have ideas for local energy projects in your area or you may want to help people in your community to save energy save money on their energy bills and create warmer, healthier homes? We are keen to hear from people who want to get involved in this groundbreaking project, whether you are ambitious to establish a new community energy group or have relevant skills you can offer.

Laura Wilson from Community Energy South shared some background on community energy in the UK, its benefits, project examples and skills that are needed to move community energy forward.

Ben Dodd at Green Fox Community Energy shared information about the GreenerFutures project and how you can get involved.

If you have further questions or suggestions, please reach out to Ben Dodd at info@greenfoxcommunityenergy.org
Our next online meeting will be held at 10am on September 17th.
